Rev. Father Robert Carey

 

Fr Robert Carey was born in Merseyside in 1979, the first of six children in a family of practising Catholics. Prior to seminary he studied at the University of Manchester and graduated with an MA in International Politics. He then worked for seven years, mostly in the public service, and enjoyed two overseas placements. He studied for the priesthood at Oscott College, Sutton Coldfield, and obtained two first-class honours degrees in theology from the University of Birmingham and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Fr Rob’s dissertation provided a non-foundationalist reading of Karl Rahner’s Trinitarian theology. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Birmingham by His Grace, Archbishop Longley in St Chad’s Cathedral on 7th July 2018. Archbishop Longley appointed him to assist Canon John Batthula in Bicester-Hethe, and Chaplain at HMP Bullingdon, both for a period of three years. Fr Rob is an avid reader and continues to study philosophy and theology. He enjoys keeping fit and is a regular gym user. He is also interested in French, Spanish and Italian cuisine, and a variety of wine.
