The Archdiocese of Birmingham - The Parish of the Immaculate Conception

Another picture of a May Procession kindly lent by Jean McIntosh. Led by the cross bearer and acolytes the procession is making its way down Priory Road past its junction with Priory Close towards the old Catholic church - the Art Deco architecture of the white house standing out from its neighbours. The procession seems to have attracted the attention of a number of presumably non-Catholic youngsters. Before the Catholic Church opened up following the Second Vatican Council much of what Catholics did might have seemed strange to the non-Catholic majority. The contingent walking behind the statue is all male begause at the time it was customary for men and women to walk separately in a procession.
